Can UV light help against the Corona virus?

What some people might not know is that uv light is used as disinfectant in hospitals. Now that the spring has come it is actually good to go outside alone and expose to sun and heat. China is using uv light in the buses. And not just any uv light (there is also detrimental uv light), but one which has a wavelength of 240–280 nm, used for disinfection, decontamination of surfaces and water (DNA absorption has a peak at 260 nm).

Armed with 210 ultraviolet tubes, the company, Yanggao, converted a regular cleaning room into a UV light disinfection chamber, which condenses a 40-minute cleaning process down to five minutes. The ultraviolet disinfection method is efficient and less time-consuming, as well as requiring less labor and disinfection costs. Secondly, it disinfects thoroughly and kills more than 99.9 percent of viruses. Thirdly, it doesn't corrode buses – it is a purely physical disinfection method.

During the Spanish Flu, doctors found that people got better when they took them outside in the middle of the day to get sun.

Many hospitals are using uv light as a helper to traditional methods using chemical disinfectants. Sitting in the sun will help our body produce vitamin D. Vitamin D can modulate the innate and adaptive immune responses. Deficiency in vitamin D is associated with increased autoimmunity as well as an increased susceptibility to infection. The immune system defends the body from foreign, invading organisms, promoting protective immunity while maintaining tolerance to self.

Acording to US library of medicine, Sensible sun exposure which is free, eating foods that naturally contain vitamin D or are fortified with vitamin D as well as taking a vitamin D supplement should guarantee vitamin D sufficiency. A global strategy to reduce the risk of vitamin D deficiency should be to consider not only increasing programs for food fortification not only of dairy products but also juice products, flour, and other commonly used food sources. There is no downside to increasing vitamin D intake and there could be a substantial upside, i.e., improvement not only of musculoskeletal health but overall health and welfare. It has been estimated that as much as 25% of health care dollars could be saved just by improving the world’s vitamin D status.

But what can we do indoors or on surfaces that the sun can't shine upon? Or if the strong is not strong enaugh in your part of the world. UV light emission depends on many factors, including the time of the day, the period of the year, clouds, the size of the ozone layer...

UV light products are probably not necesarry in many cases and also there are other ways to disinfect and also other ways to boost the immunitary system, like taking vitamin D.
